Ritchie was established in 1870 as a blacksmith in Forfar, Scotland and soon branched out into making agricultural equipment. In 1948 the company produced its first catalogue of products which soon extended to livestock handling equipment. Bale handling implements were produced in the 1970s and 80s and the company also diversified into other areas. A second manufacturing site was opened in the West Midlands in 2011.
