New Front-mounted mower and tedders enhance Massey Ferguson hay and forage range

Massey Ferguson, a worldwide brand of AGCO (NYSE:AGCO), is proud to announce it is further extending its successful hay and forage equipment line-up with the addition of new front-mounted mowers as well as wider mounted and trailed tedders. These new machines will be revealed at Agritechnica 2019, 10 November in Hanover, Germany.

These new machines further strengthen the already expansive and well-regarded green harvest range within the Massey Ferguson brand full line portfolio, which is proving popular with customers and dealers. “As part of our full-line strategy Massey Ferguson continues to invest and update our equipment offering. These new mowers and tedders are a key part of this approach, offering our customers new solutions to address their business growth needs” says Francesco Quaranta, Vice-President Sales, Marketing & Product Management, Massey Ferguson Europe & Middle East.

“Our extensive range of high quality and productive machines enable our customers to buy well-proven equipments from their Massey Ferguson dealer with confidence, knowing they will receive excellent back-up and service from a trusted partner,” he adds.

Thanks to its parent company, AGCO, Massey Ferguson is able to tap into leading global design and engineering experience. This expertise enables customers to benefit from new machines that blend the latest designs alongside existing, well-proven features.

Massey Ferguson’s new hay and forage equipment includes:

  • MF DM FQ mower range offers new 3.12m and 3.62m front-mounted models, with novel ‘pulling’ linkage, TurboLift suspension and the option of roller or tine conditioner versions
  • New MF TD X mounted and trailed 7.7m, 10.2 and 12.50m wide tedders. Inspired by the well-known Lotus design, these offer fast, economic and gentle operation
  • Ten rotors, MF TD 1110 DN tedder, with a 10.7m working width now heads the Massey Ferguson mounted tedder range.

MF DM FQ mower ahead in the field

Massey Ferguson’s new MF DM FQ front-mounted mowers are equipped with new six- or seven-disc beds. Mounted using a novel, pendulum mounting system that incorporates the proven TurboLift suspension, the design ‘pulls’ the machine through the crop and provides optimum ground following.

There is a choice of a total of six models, offering working widths of 3.12m with six discs or 3.62m with seven discs. All can be supplied with or without a roller or tine rotor conditioner, enabling customers to select the best system for their crops and conditions.

All are close-mounted directly to the front linkage, without an A frame. This keeps the machine close to the tractor, improves stability and reduces the overhang.

A novel pendulum system suspends the mower on a series of linkages, which connect to the front of the frame. This effectively ‘pulls’ the mower, like a trailed machine, instead of more traditional designs that ‘push’ it through the crop.

The linkages are connected to a centre pivot, which provides unrivalled ‘three dimensional’ suspension from the well-proven TurboLift hydro-pneumatic damping. This allows the disc bed to ride over the ground, closely following ground contours – from -6° uphill to +15° downwards.

This advanced system allows operators to precisely set the ground pressure to enable the mower to glide over the ground, to closely follow contours, protect the sward and improve the forage quality.

To compensate for working across slopes the pendulum enables it to move +/- 13° side-to-side. An optional hydraulic side-shift facility provides up to 20cm of movement to steer around obstacles.

All models are equipped with a new cutting bed. Two 62 cm. diameter discs, the widest on the market, are fitted with two blades and generate very high peripheral speeds for the cleanest cut. Replacing blades is simple thanks to the well proven quick-change tool.

Well-proven Lotus design joins Massey Ferguson tedder fleet

Massey Ferguson is further extending its tedder range with the addition of three models in the MF TD X range inspired by the Lotus design, which is renowned for its high capacity, low power requirement and ability to promote fast wilting.

Based on the well-known Lely Lotus, the Massey Ferguson tedders feature the proven hooked, long and short tine tedding action.

Recognised for its outstanding performance, the tedder design combines unrivalled performance with a low power requirement, the cleanest pick-up, upmost reliability and ease of use

Three models in the MF TD X range

Model MF TD 776 X DN MF TD 1028 X TRC MF TD 1310 X TRC
Working width 7.70m 10.20m 12.50m
No. rotors 6 8 10
Tine arms/rotor 6 7 7
Mounting Mounted Trailed chassis
Power requirement 75hp 54hp 90hp

Key to the MF TD X tedders’ high capacity, which is up to 40% greater than others, is the combination of the machine’s transmission and hooked tines that operate at the perfect speed. This enables the rotors’ optimum speed to be achieved at just 400-450rpm on the PTO, which also delivers significant fuel savings.

More flexible than conventional versions, the MF TD X hooked tines are capable of moving up to 50% more crop on each rotor revolution. At the same time, they work gently on the material and the ground, minimising damage to the sward and risk of crop contamination.

The hooked tine, working angle and the combination of a short and long tines produces an exceptional tedding action, resulting in faster wilting. In operation the shorter tines travel about 12% slower than the longer ones, which work further down in the crop.

This means the shorter, slower tines move the lighter, drier material less far than the long tines, which throw the wetter, heavier crop further. This means it lands on top of the drier material, which helps it to dry more quickly.

Ten-rotor mounted tedder boosts productivity

With a working width of 10.7m, Massey Ferguson’s new MF TD 1110 DN is the new flagship in its mounted tedder range. With ten rotors, each equipped with six tines, it offers high productivity with a low, 120hp power requirement.

Based on the current design, which previously offered up to 8.6m working widths, the new top model comes equipped with a new patented swing brake, enhanced hydraulic edge spreading system and stronger headstock.
